Shi was born in 1993, and graduated from the Experimental Art Department, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
The black shbone grown on skin, the red gold sh thrown into toilet by accident, black skirt and two twisted pigtails. These elements extracted from different unforgetable memories follow the mood of unforgettable memories to be recognized and reencountered. New understandings developed out of old events during the process of growing up form a conversation between now and the past. This is the rst step for me to deconstruct my own time.

Shi Weina graduated from the Department of Experimental Art at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. She has been obsessed with the animation time and space she has woven herself, and this obsession has gradually transformed and produced a personal will and system of perception. The artist echoed the “distance from the everyday” itself by means of the “self-woven somatosensory world”; the self/the body therefore become a part of discourse. This is different from self-abstraction and self- absence in creation, as she cannot conduct logical deduction of the self in academic terms. Even for a common thesis defense she can only present herself in a whisper, just as a somehow neurotic “flower of evil.” This phenomenon has caused a self- examination and discussion within the department over the experimental art system during her graduation period. The Department of Experimental Art, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts has shown approval and positive comments. Therefore, I would like to recommend Shi Weina’s work to the Jury of the Animation Biennale, hoping to produce more in-depth research and feedback in a context which young subcultures, museum institutions and academy systems are integrated and interspersed.
